Interior Colour Trend 2021

Inspiration :   16 - 03 - 21

Pantone recently announced its annual Colour Of The Year, but for 2021 the title was given to not one, but two colours – ‘Ultimate Grey’ and ‘Illuminating’. Ultimate Grey is a quiet hue that speaks of “composure, steadiness and resilience”. Pantone says this hue can almost be compared to durable natural elements, like time-weathered pebbles on a beach. The bright yellow shade, called Illuminating, is meant to evoke the “optimistic promise of a sunshine-filled day”.

The combination of grey and bright yellow is already making waves in the world of interior design. Grey is already a popular colour for home decoration, and it is easy to add a touch of sunshine yellow to brighten it.

“The selection of two independent colours highlight how different elements come together to express a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting,” explained Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute.

“Practical and rock-solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a colour combination that gives us resilience and hope,” she continued.

If you are considering updating your home interior and incorporating the latest colour trend, there are many ways you can combine grey and yellow. If you already have a grey sofa, you could opt to buy yellow pillows to add a splash of colour. You could even bring in a cosy yellow armchair.

Another option would be to apply a feature wallpaper which incorporates yellow tones on a wall behind a grey sofa. If you already have grey carpets or flooring you might consider investing in some yellow rugs, which will bring a tough of sunshine to any room.

When it comes to colourful accessories the options are endless, from lampshades and wall art, through to bedding and furniture. If you don’t wish to make a big investment, remember that small details and soft furnishings are just as important for stylish home decoration.
