Further Information

Description
The Old Manor is a striking and important Grade II listed family house that dates back beyond the 16th Century believed to be as far as the Domesday and Norman Conquest. Additions through the centuries include the Queen Anne front elevation façade and, more recently, a complete renovation of plumbing and electrics both indoors and outdoors as well as new bathrooms and decoration throughout. The house has been a central part of village life with soldiers billeted there in the first world war and then becoming a well regarded country hotel between the first and second world wars.

The house provides a warm and generously proportioned family home of character with a wealth of exposed brick, parquet flooring, oak beams and original oak and pine doors throughout. There are three reception rooms on the ground floor, all with fireplaces and one, the Reception Hall, with a beautiful inglenook fireplace with backplate and cremaillaire. The large study (previously the ‘morning room’ because of the wonderful morning light) is panelled. There is also a fine kitchen/diner, utility room and boot room (ideal for outdoor clothing and animals). The wide oak staircase opens to 5 bedrooms, with 2 ensuite and a further well-appointed family shower room.

Outside
Set back behind an ancient stone wall the house is approached by a heavy oak gate and a stone paved drive leading to parking and turning spaces beside the barn/car port, stables and office/gym. The drive continues past the carport, tack room and two stable boxes to a green house and level lawned paddock area beyond.

The beautifully landscaped gardens surround the house with mature trees and well stocked flower beds, an ornamental pond and large open lawn. The swimming pool and pool house/changing room is enclosed for privacy and security behind a large evergreen hedge and there is a walkway through to the tennis court. Beyond the formal gardens there is also an additional fenced paddock – in all the land extends to circa 2.4 acres.
