Join Us for the Otter Wey Charity Auction

Community news :   18 - 06 - 18

The Mayor of Farnham, Councillor David Attfield, is inviting you to the charity auction of the town’s beautiful Otter statues to celebrate the completion of fundraising activities during his year in office 2017/18. Funds raised through the auction will go to the Woodlarks Centre and Brightwells Gostrey Community Centre, with both doing great work in the local community. The auction will take place in the beautiful surroundings of Farnham Castle on 9th July 2018, starting at 6pm with a glass of bubbly, and Bonhams’ auctioneer Sholto Gilbertson starting the proceedings at 6.30pm. Our very own Andrew Lodge Estate Agents Otter, which has been painted by a local artist takes inspiration from the Lion and Lamb and River Wey, will feature in the auction.

The Mayor said: “It has been a delightful and fascinating journey from inception of the Otter Wey Community art project to the completion and display of the Otter statues around Farnham. The project has captured the imagination of so many people, who have enjoyed decorating the otters and then hunting for them around town with the hope of winning their very own otter.

“I am so grateful to everyone who has supported and participated in the project, particularly all those that took time to decorate the otters, and of course Blooming Arts and the Lions Club of Farnham, as without them all the project would not have been possible. I am also very grateful to Kidd Rapinet for their generosity in sponsoring this auction and reception, so that all the proceeds can go to the charities.
Now, my challenge to you is to dig deep and help me raise as much money as possible for my chosen charities, by bidding for your very own otter statue.”

The otters have been on display around Farnham for a few weeks now and can be seen all together at Farnham Carnival, which takes place in Gostrey Meadow on 30th June from 2pm. They will also be on display at Farnham Castle from 12-4pm on 9th July, and can be seen online at

All the otters have been decorated beautifully by children from local schools, Community Groups and professional artists and are fine examples of the talent that exists in our wonderful community.
